The folders issued in 1958 and 1959 were sold by the UN with the stamps glued into the folder.

They could be purchased in either mint condition or with the last set cancelled on the first day of its issue. Starting with the 1960 folder, the UN sold only mint folders, the stamps were in a glassine envelope attached to the folder with cellophane tape. If the tape was not removed, it stained the folders

In the late 1970's the UN switched to using peelable tape. Folders with brown tape stain spots are considered average condition. Folders without tape stains command a premium.

Vienna issued the first folder in 1979 - mint, fd cancelled or with UNPA "working" day FD were sold. The UNPO also cancels folders on the first day that the PO sold the stamps. The first day of sale at the Post Office is the forst "working" day after the philatelic FD of issue.

UNPA Geneva issued its first folder in 1969. The folders were sold in either mint condition, FD canceled, or with the UNPA working day "stars" FD dated letter cancel. The "Museum" cancel was available on request, as were the other "stars" hand cancels.

Most folders exist with all possible "stars" and the Museum cancels in use on the Day of issue of the folder.

The UNPO in Geneva does not cancel folders, it considers them philatelic items.
